Outreach and mentoring
WashU Math Circle
Since Fall 2024 I have co-directed the WashU Math Circle with Alan Chang. Founded in 2000 by Steven Krantz, the Math Circle is a free weekly program that brings St. Louis area elementary, middle, and high school students together to explore mathematics beyond the classroom. Each session is led by a WashU mathematics faculty member, graduate student, or speaker from a related field, on topics ranging from knot theory and cryptography to the mathematics of the Rubik’s cube and competition preparation.
The Math Circle aims to share the fun of doing mathematics, introduce students to mathematical theory, prepare them for competitions, and encourage careers in math-related fields. Families are welcome to attend any week.
Sonia Kovalevsky Math Day
I lead activities at WashU’s Sonia Kovalevsky Math Day.
- The Fold and Cut TheoremSession volunteers to be announced
- The Factor GameWith Georgia Corbett, Jeongwon Lee, and Elaine Yoo
- Polyomino Puzzles and Tic-Tac-ToeWith Sydney Mayer
Expanding Pathways in Harmonic Analysis
Expanding Pathways in Harmonic Analysis (EPHA) is a weekend conference hosted by the WashU Department of Mathematics that brings researchers together to discuss recent developments in harmonic analysis, in a supportive environment for collaboration and professional growth. The program centers on Fourier analysis, singular integrals, and wavelets, along with their connections to geometry, probability, and PDE.
I co-organized EPHA 2025 (April 5–6, 2025) with Elodie Pozzi and Brett Wick. Its plenary speakers were David Cruz-Uribe, Virginia Naibo, and Cristina Pereyra, and it was supported by the National Science Foundation, the WashU Department of Mathematics, and the WashU College of Arts & Sciences. I am on the organizing committee for EPHA 2027.
Mentoring
In Spring 2026 I led a National Math Alliance Mentored Reading in harmonic analysis with Adrian Yuan Han Fry. The Math Alliance supports students from underrepresented groups on the path to graduate study in the mathematical sciences.
Professional development
- Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Project NExT Fellow, 2024–present.
- Co-organized the Project NExT panel discussion Thriving in Academia at the Joint Mathematics Meetings 2025, with Rachel Bailey and Yesim Demiroglu.
